The person behind the name

Huang Lee is the protagonist of Chinatown Wars. Following his father’s murder, he travels to Liberty City carrying Yu Jian, a sword that his family treats as a symbol of authority. Delivering it to his uncle Wu “Kenny” Lee should reinforce the family’s standing within the Triads. An attack immediately turns that ceremonial errand into a struggle to recover both the weapon and his position.

Huang begins with the attitude of someone accustomed to comfort, connections and having other people handle unpleasant work. Liberty City quickly removes that protection. His sarcastic responses remain a defining trait, but the jobs he undertakes demand increasing competence. The contrast between privileged expectation and practical survival gives the story its momentum.

The Triad succession dispute places Kenny, Chan Jaoming and Zhou Ming within Huang’s working world. Each contact makes demands while offering a different view of power and entitlement. Huang must navigate these relationships without assuming that a family name guarantees honesty. The organization’s internal competition matters as much as any enemy outside it.

A suspected police informant adds another layer of uncertainty. Huang’s dealings with investigator Wade Heston complicate the boundary between criminal work and law enforcement, while the search for the traitor gives him a reason to question the explanations supplied by his own associates. The missing sword becomes part of a larger struggle over who controls the story everyone believes.

Story spoilers — reveal narrative details

Huang discovers that Kenny orchestrated the betrayal and killed his father. The revelation turns his uncle from presumed protector into the source of the crisis. After Kenny attacks Triad leader Hsin Jaoming, Huang pursues and kills him. Recovering the truth requires rejecting the family authority he originally arrived to support, making the ending a reckoning with inheritance rather than a straightforward retrieval mission.
