Inside the game
Michael De Santa, Franklin Clinton and Trevor Philips become partners in a series of increasingly ambitious heists. Switching protagonists opens three contrasting perspectives on Southern San Andreas.
Setting: Los Santos and Blaine County. Original announced platforms: PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
This entry distinguishes the HD universe from the other GTA continuities. Shared city names do not establish a shared narrative timeline.
The date above refers to the original release year. Subsequent ports, remasters and editions can differ in controls, features and available music.
Three protagonists, competing priorities
Michael is a former criminal living under the strain of retirement and family conflict. Franklin wants to leave small-time work behind. Trevor turns old resentments into an unpredictable force. Their partnership is functional enough to plan heists and unstable enough to endanger everyone around it.
Character switching offers different viewpoints on the same region. Each protagonist has an individual special ability: Michael slows time in gunfights, Franklin does so while driving, and Trevor enters a rage state. Use those abilities in their intended situations rather than treating the three characters as identical equipment slots.
Heists and preparation
Major heists bring planning, equipment and crew choices into the story. Some offer different approaches, producing different preparation assignments and execution sequences. A single list of missions should not imply that every setup is required in every playthrough.
Crew selection can affect performance and payout. The cheapest option is not automatically the most profitable once mistakes and losses are considered. Keep a manual save before committing to an approach if you want to explore the alternatives without confusing replay mode with your original save’s financial outcome.
A city and its countryside
Los Santos provides dense streets, hillside neighborhoods and industrial districts. Blaine County adds desert highways, small settlements and the slopes around Mount Chiliad. Aircraft, off-road vehicles and bicycles each make different parts of the region easier to explore.
Strangers and Freaks, hobbies, races, collectibles and random events sit alongside the story. The in-game completion percentage uses particular requirements; completing every possible activity is a broader project than reaching the displayed 100 percent. Separate the story, official completion checklist and personal collection goals.
Story mode versus GTA Online
GTA Online shares much of the world but has its own character, progression, businesses and update history. Online vehicle prices, weapon availability and business advice should not be used as story-mode facts. The archive labels those modes separately.
The original PS3 and Xbox 360 release, later console versions and PC editions differ in features and technical capabilities. When using cheats, performance advice or controller instructions, select the platform and edition that match your installation. The PC console codes here are explicitly for story mode.
