The briefing
A mission list is not always a single straight line. GTA campaigns frequently allow several contacts to offer work at once, and some later jobs unlock only after more than one strand has advanced. Two walkthroughs can therefore present different orders without either being wrong. Use prerequisite relationships and the markers in your save to plan the next job. A numbered editorial list is a convenient reading order, not necessarily the only legal sequence of play.
Heist plans create another kind of branching. GTA V can offer alternative approaches with their own preparation missions. Selecting one plan does not make the other preparation strand an unfinished obligation in that same campaign. Track the approach you chose and evaluate its objectives against that branch. When comparing mission counts, ask whether a source counts setup scenes, preparations, alternate approaches or final choices separately. A total without those definitions can make a complete save appear incomplete.
Story spoilers — reveal narrative details
GTA IV’s late Deal and Revenge options produce different final sequences. GTA V presents three final choices, with The Third Way following Franklin’s Deathwish selection. These events should be described as alternatives. A character killed in one branch should not be listed as universally dead in an article that discusses all outcomes. Keep a pre-decision save if you want to compare the stories directly, then decide which continuing state you want to retain.
Chronology and release order are also separate. Vice City Stories takes place before Vice City, although it was released later. Liberty City Stories precedes GTA III within its setting. Playing in release order reveals how the design evolved; playing in story order emphasizes fictional background. Neither preference requires treating every installment as part of one continuous history. The archive identifies the 2D, 3D and HD universes so that recurring brands and city names do not imply an unsupported character connection.
For spoiler-conscious reading, start with a game overview, then use the mission page for your current objective. Open plot outcomes only when you want their consequences explained. For research, record the game, mission name and branch alongside every claim about a character’s fate. GTA Online material needs its own timing context because its evolving stories do not behave like a fixed single-player mission order. These distinctions make a large encyclopedia more reliable: it can connect related topics while preserving the exact context in which each fact is true.
