On January 31, 2013, Rockstar fixed the release date at September 17, 2013, moving beyond the earlier spring target. The stated reason was additional development and polish for the game.
The announcement belongs to the original PS3 and Xbox 360 launch schedule. It should not be used as the release date for the later PS4, Xbox One, PC or current-generation editions. Preserving both the spring estimate and the confirmed September date makes the chronology clearer: one was the public target before the delay, and the other became the actual original launch. This distinction is useful when reading older previews, retailer listings or screenshots whose publication predates the final release-date decision.
