The briefing

GTA V’s PC release in 2015 gave its modding community a new foundation. Tools such as OpenIV, ScriptHookV and Community ScriptHookV opened access to assets and scripting, allowing projects that went beyond the original console experience. Early changes often focused on textures, player behavior and simple travel functions.

Later projects expanded into detailed vehicles, explorable interiors, custom missions and larger roleplay systems. Those are different kinds of modification: an asset replacement does not have the same requirements as a script or a multiplayer framework. Tool and game-version compatibility therefore matter when understanding how a project works.

This is a history of community creativity rather than an instruction to install every named mod into the current game. Read a project’s own requirements and distinguish a single-player modification from official GTA Online content. The community’s ability to reinterpret Los Santos is one contributor to the game’s long life, alongside Rockstar’s separate Online updates.
