Rockstar announced that PS3 and Xbox 360 GTA Online services would end on December 16, 2021. The shutdown also affected the associated web statistics and other specified online functions, while GTA V’s single-player campaign remained a separate product experience.
The announcement did not end GTA Online on PS4, Xbox One or PC, and it distinguished those editions from the newer console releases under development. This platform boundary matters when reading an old purchase or progression guide: a feature described for the original consoles may no longer have a functioning online service there. Preserve the date and affected versions when describing the shutdown, rather than generalizing it to the whole game or assuming that an offline Story save depended on the same servers.
