Music gives the three character trailers different emotional rhythms. Franklin’s sequence connects ambition with loyalty to his neighborhood and Lamar; Trevor’s presentation emphasizes volatility; Michael’s looks toward the dissatisfaction behind an outwardly comfortable life.
This is an interpretation of how a trailer works, rather than a new fact about the mission order. A song’s mood, editing and contrast with an image can communicate character before the viewer understands the plot. That makes the videos useful companions to the biographies and radio archive. The analysis discusses the recordings without reproducing their lyrics, and distinguishes a track used in promotional editing from music that necessarily plays during the corresponding scene in the finished campaign.
